Plans are underway by the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) to de-register, remove names of practitioners who have failed to pay the required practice fee in accordance with their category of membership for the past five years.

The Apex body announced: “Registered advertising practitioners are advised to take note that the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) shall, in line with section 9(2) (d) and (e) of the Advertising Practitioners (Registration Etc) Act, CAP A7, L.F.N. 2004, remove from the register of practitioners, with effect from Friday 17th December 2021, the names of persons who have failed, refused or neglected to pay the prescribed practice fees in accordance with their category of membership for the past 5 (five) years from 1st December, 2021.”

In the same vein, registered advertising practitioners who are yet to pay the fees prescribed for their categories in accordance with the provisions of Act for the past two to five years from 1st December, 2021 shall have their membership of the profession suspended.

However, the council stated that concerned members whose names have been removed from the register and seek to be readmitted, should upon payment of all outstanding fees, present a new application for membership.

In addition, suspended members will have a period of one year moratorium from the date of suspension within which to pay all outstanding fees or face the risk of having their names removed from the register.

Registered members of the profession have been advised to update their records and pay the prescribed practice fees due on or before Friday 17th December, 2021.
